Mark your Calendars: Wed Sept 18 3-4:30 pm TLC Universal Course Design session

We recommended that the TLC request that Jennifer Jones, Instructional Designer at Wake Technical Community College, present a TLC session on Universal Course Design (UDL) at Durham Tech. Why? We participated in her Universal Design for Learning workshop and were impressed with the variety of tips she provided to make your course easier for all students to use and succeed.

What is Universal Course Design? According to the TLC course description:  The concept of Universal Design for Learning was introduced by the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST).

Just as Universal Design attempts to remove the barriers of everyday products and structures, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) attempts to remove the barriers to learning. The CAST website defines UDL as:
"UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone--not a single, one-size-fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs."
What if you can't make it to the TLC session?
Here is a previous blog post about Universal Design for Learning, along with links to workshop materials provided by Jennifer Jones.
